The San Antonio Spurs have won 20 games in a row. They won their last 10 games of the shortened regular season, and all 10 of their post season games. The NBA record for most wins to start a post season is 11, by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2001. So the Spurs are looking to match that number on Thursday night against the Thunder in Oklahoma City. How must the Thunder feel after their big 3 of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden combined for 88 points, and still lost 120-111 in game 2 of the Western Conference Finals? Also, San Antonio’s star power forward Tim Duncan only shot 2 for 11 in the game. Tony Parker basically took over the slack for Duncan, by scoring 34 points himself. The Spurs truly exhibit proper team basketball in the way they play the game.
In the Eastern Conference Finals the Boston Celtics visit the Miami Heat tonight in game 2 of their series. The Heat won game 1 by a score of 93-79. Chris Bosh is still not ready to return for the Miami heat, but they have found a way to win without him, with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade attacking the hoop. In their last 4 wins, the tandem has combined for almost 63 points per game. The Celtics need to get much better play from the injured Ray Allen, who is one of the greatest free throw and 3 point shooters in NBA history. He was 1 for 7 from the field in game 1, including 1 for 4 on 3 pointers, and an unbelievably low 43% from the free throw line. Now the question is, how much do you play him, if he not only isn’t helping your team, but is hurting your team with such poor shooting? If Ray Allen does manage to kick it into gear, then the series will be a good one. If not, the Celtics shouldn’t last past game 5.
