Are the undefeated Houston Texans the best team in the NFL? At this point, 1/4 of the way into the regular season, I would say yes. There are two other undefeated teams, the Arizona Cardinals and the Atlanta Falcons. They both barely escaped defeat on Sunday. The Cardinals came from behind, and won in overtime over the Miami Dolphins 24-21. While the Falcons kicked a late field goal, starting the drive from their one yard line, to beat the Carolina Panthers 30-28. The key play being a 59 yard bomb from Matt Ryan to Roddy White from the one yard line.
The Texans have not had the most difficult schedule so far. They blew out the Dolphins, Jaguars and the Titans, while holding on to beat the Denver Broncos 31-25, after having a big lead. But it gets tougher for the Texans, after a game against the toothless Jets this weekend. They will play the Green Bay Packers and the Baltimore Ravens, in back to back games, but both are at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
The Houston Texans do have the #1 defense in the NFL after 4 weeks. The defense improved tremendously last year under new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, moving from 3oth in 2010, all the way up to 2nd best last year. They also have a solid quarterback in Matt Schaub, who was injured last year, as the Texans still made the playoffs, with a rookie quarterback. Schaub has a lot of help on offense, with one of the best wide receivers in football, with Andre Johnson, and one of the best running backs, Arian Foster.
Two weeks ago most people thought the San Francisco 49ers were the best team, until they were soundly upset by the Minnesota Vikings. It is stil very early in the 2012 NFL regular season, but the Houston Texans look to be the best team at this point.
