The L.A. Kings Win In Overtime Again In Game 2 Of The Stanley Cup Finals

The Los Angeles Kings have proven to be the ultimate road warriors, winning their 10th consecutive road game, by defeating the New Jersey Devils in overtime, 2-1.  Jeff Carter scored the game winner 13:42 into overtime.  This was Carter’s fifth goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  The Kings outshot the Devils 11-3 in the overtime period, after being outshot in the first three periods 30-21.  So now the Kings have taken a 2 games to none lead in the series, and are going home for games 3 and 4.  Only 11 previous teams have ever won both games 1 and 2 on the road in the finals, and 9 of those teams have gone on to win the Stanley Cup.  So the Kings’ are in great shape, going back home.

Once again Kings’ goalie Jonathan Quick was spectacular, just giving up the one goal on 33 shots by the Devils.  His counterpart was also very good, but the 40 year old Martin Brodeur came up on the losing end, when Carter finished them off.  The Devils must be very frustrated after playing a much better game than they did in game 1, but still losing in overtime again.  If the Kings end up winning games 3 and 4 at home, they will finish the playoffs with a 16-2 record, which is tied with the 1988 Edmonton Oilers, for the best record ever in the playoffs.  Remember, the Kings entered the playoffs as the 8th and last seed in the Western Conference, unbelievable.
